Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala (AVS) is a century old Charitable Institution engaged in the practice and propagation of Ayurveda, the ancient health care system of India. Every year, since past 4-5 yrs I catch sinus, cough cold. It is accompanied with coninuous sneezing and itching sensation/irritation in throat and sometimes in eye. I have not found a permanent solution to this problem. There is redness in throat as well.
I was prescribed the two medicines mentioned above by a Kotakkal franchise outlet. But it has not helped much. I am also applying Marichadi Tailam on regular basis

Cukkumtippallyadi gulika is mainly using for sannipata jwara(fever caused by the abnormality of three doshas according to ayurveda ) and Sitajwarari kashaya is a main medicine for Vishama jwara(In modern terms its the main medicine in ayurveda for conditions like Influenza and malaria ),I think the medicines you take for your symptoms specified above is not the right medicines.I will suggest you some medicines which if you use regularly gives good result
1) Amritottaram kashayam : 15 ml kashayam + 45ml light hot water morning 6.00 am and evening 5.00 pm on empty stomach only take food 1 hour after you take kashayam
2)Vyoshadi vataka : take it 10. Gram after food morning and at night
3)Vasarishta : 15 ml after food morning and at night
4)Vilwadi lehya : 15 gm at night after food
5)Maricadi taila : apply it on head 10. Minutes before bath
Apathya(don'ts) :Avoid cold food,cold drinks,don't expose to cold wind and use hot food items and lot of fibrous vegetables

ReplyDeleteHello,the lakshadikera thailam suggested by your physician is good for child.The other thailam's such as Bala thailam,Dhanwantharam thailam,Balaswagandhadi thailam are also good and used according to the conditions of the child.The main reason for using these thailam's is because it contain BALA( sida cordifolia) in malayalam its known as kurunthotti this drug can pacify vatha dosha kopha or vriddhi that means make VATHA DOSHA to its normal state which has varied from its normal state during delivery ....
doctor, my daughter is 12 years old and has a lot of dandruff and having hair fall too. because of the dandruff she has also started getting pimples too.. i am using durdurpatradhi taila now. is this enough? how many times a week should this be applied? what can be done for the pimples?

ReplyDeleteHello,the Dhurdhura patradi kera now you are using for your child is very good for dandruff,itching,eczema etc..very effectIive especially for childrens.Other thailam's effective for dandruff are Nimbadi taila,Vilwa patradi taila,Dhurdhuradi taila,Asaneiladi yamaka(apply this on scalp for 30 minutes and wash away),Darunaka taila etc are very effective for dandruff,in my observation a combination of Dhurdhura patradi taila + Nimbadi taila in equal amount 100 ml each and applying it 15 minutes before bath is giving good result in removing dandruff.You also said that your daughter has hair fall and pimples it's due to dandruff but it can be also due to vitamin deficiencies please check it and avoid fatty food,cold food,oil food,bakery items especially those which is sweet and take a lot of vegetable,fruits and fibrous food.Ayurvedic medicines such as Nimbadi curna,Nimbapatradi curna mixed with takra or hot water if applied on face for 20 minutes and wash it away before they dry give good result use also Kumkumadi lepa(apply it and rub gently and wash) gives good fairness for face......

The Kotakkal physician I saw this time is the head of medicine and changed my medicines to:
1. Patolakaturohingyadi Kwatham
2. Kaisoragulgulu Vatika
3. Parushakadi Leham
4. Pravala Bhasmam
5. Haridrakhandam
6. Psorakot Gel
It is hard to find the exact purpose and ingredients of these medications on the internet unlike products of leading brands like Himalaya, Zandu, Alarsin etc.
Please help me understand what are these medicines for. Also, he asked me to stop taking Fortege tablets and switch to Dabur Shilajit gold to deal with the recent ED issues. My question is, at 1 MG Gold per capsule; is it safe to take Shilajit Gold?

Moderate to high antinuclear antibody levels are suggestive of autoimmune disease. ReplyDeleteI think its best to get a proper diagnosed before treatment as to whether this is due to poly-cystic ovarian disease, hypothalamic amenorrhea (like stress-induced), thyroid problem or any of the other causes of no menses. Consult a doctor he will probably order some hormonal tests and possibly an ultrasound of the pelvis to look for multiple cysts in the ovaries. ReplyDeleteHello please don't give arshta or asava or any other thing which have alcoholic contents to your wife it is harmful to child bala taila for external application in patharapaka(make taila light hot by pouring taila to a light hot plate) use it for external application
SUKHAPRASAVADA GHRITAM :15 gm make it light hot and mix it with rice soup and take it at night after food its good.
But I think it better to consult a Ayurvedic
doctor and have more better medicine because its a matter relating your child...thank you

ReplyDeleteI tell you not to give Dasamoolarishtam ,Jeerakarishtam,Abhayarishtam etc.. before delivery but you can give it after delivery it's good also in-order to pacify Vatha Kopa a combination of Dasamoolarishtam(1bottle) + Jeerakarishtam(1bottle): mix it took 15 ml and 1 Dhanwantharam gulika( powder it and mix with Arishta)its good for postnatal care and also Dhanwantharam Kashayam:15ml + 50ml light hot water 6am morning in empty stomach is also good to regain the health and for gas problem,acidity,sour belching etc for women after delivery hope this information help you but consult a Doctor before you took treatment....thank you

It is called Sorion Ointment and is manufactured by Atrimed Bangalore. It is almost magical and I am worried if it has some harmful ingredients.

ReplyDeleteSorion Ointment is good for psoriasis it's giving good result and it doesn't contain any harmful ingredient,its better to use it under a doctor observation to get good result because dosage is always important.Other oil which can be used for psoriasis is Psora capsule and ointment,psorex oil,psoria oil,psorset oil and ointment, kottakkal ayur vaidya sala has a special oil for this complaint that is ayyappala tailam it's also good for this complaint.Don't take egg,fish,sour food,cold food,chicken etc for those patients having psoriasis..thank you

ReplyDeleteI was diagnosed with Low Ejection Fraction about 3 years ago by a Cardiologist.
I was informed it maybe due to a viral throat infection that affected one of the heart valves.
I was prescribed Co Q10 and Flaxseed Oil Capsules and have been stable since then.
The EF has increased from 49 to about 55%.
Since I am currently being treated for GERD by a Kottakkal physician, I discussed this with him and he suggested Arjuna capsule to replace Co Q10 and support both low EF and High Blood Pressure.
My question is that every time I try to give up Co Q10 and Flaxseed Oil capsules, I start getting chest paid and high blood pressure and even migraines.
All my other reports are normal and have checked ECG and Echo Cardiogram and even blood test for Cholesterol. All is normal except the EF % at 50 which should be at 60 I am told.
Is there a supplement in Ayurveda other than Sarpagandha that can support cardiac function and tackle high BP without causing Gastric disturbance, something sarpagandha is known to cause?

ReplyDeleteI visited a Kottakkal physician for my joint pains and a few other compliants recently. To my surprise, they have never heard of common ayurvedic preparations like Mahasudarshan and kamadudha Rus which have been used in our household since my mother is an ayurvedic consultant with the Government.
Not only are these readily availably by Dabur and Zandu, these are widely used in Ayurveda as classical preparations.
I could not make any sense of medicines available at the AVS as most of them do not have any reference/common name in Ayurveda.
Could you please explain if Kottakkal AVS is a different branch of Ayurveda as it certainly doe snot seem to have much in common with the Ayurveda practiced worldwide.

I have heard about these medicines but not used yet because there are a lot of medicines which have the same action of medicine specified above to replace it and I think most of the Ayurvedic doctor's of kerala or south India are not using this type of medicines because Rasa preparation if not purified clearly is very dangerous to body that's the main reason why these medicines are not used widely and in North India it's used widely beyond our traditional medicines of kerala.In south India Rasa preperation are less used and other thing to tell you is that all Ayurvedic medicines are not available for all pharmacy because there are thousands of medicinal preparation in Ayurveda I think you know that and it's impossible to manufacture all these medicines only those which is more needed or according to the availability of raw materiality medicine are manufactured...thank you

Dear Dr, i have been consuming nearly half bottle of whiskey on a regular basis[almost 3 times a week, and sometimes 2-3 months at a stretch, with a gap of 1 month and again resuming] for the past 4 years. i decided i am losing out in life and stopped alcohol about 2 weeks ago. since then i have been getting panic attacks and also the anxiety levels are very high, which never happened to me before. i am also getting unwanted thoughts. because of these i quit by job in night shifts in the call centre and also not going out of my home much.

ReplyDeleteI am 50 years,and exercise regularly.for some time now I have noticed crackling sound in my knee,when walking up the stairs or when doing yoga.There is no pain at all;but I wonder if this is a warning sign of arthritis. I am at present taking medicines for hair fall from Kottakal(Tiktakam kwatham -2tabs,
chavanaprash, pravala bhasmam-1tab, and pamantaka tailam for application on the hair).It has worked wonders after taking it for over a month.
Please advice me on the crackling of the knee joint; and if any medicines can be taken to rectify this.

ReplyDeleteYou have to consult your Ayurvedic doctor who is giving the medicines for your complaint of hair fall and report him about the other symptoms that you have at present then he will alter the medicines.The tiktakam kashayam,chavanaprasam etc.. is very cold in it's potency in ayurveda (seeta verya) you have to change the medicine that will have a combined effect on your hair fall as well as osteoarthritis...thank you

hello sir,i consult a kottakal doctor for itching in scalp and hair fall in that itching area,dr look my head and told it is infection ,she prescribed thungudrumadhi kera thailam and ayapala kera thailam by mixing equal quantity and apply on scalp and leave it for 1hr.i used this for a period of 2months..itching stopped,then i took alcha,ol eat chicken and the itching reappears..can i continue use this for itching and regrowing of hair,how long does it taken to regrow...reply pls...

ReplyDeleteHello Sherin nimba haridradi choornam and eladi choornam is good for complexion apply it on face mixed with coconut milk it's good to remove acne.Apply it on face for 20 minutes and wash it away before it get dry daily once.Use any one of the medicinal powder and it's better to apply kumkumadi taila on face for better complexion.....thank you

ReplyDeleteIf you consume saffron with milk it's good for fairness but original saffron(kumkumapoove in malayalam) is rarely available and very costly.Manjishtadi tablet is used mainly for blood purification,gout like condition,skin disease etc...if you want just a blood purification you can have it for 1 week the dose is 2 tablet daily morning on empty stomach crushed and mixed with light hot boiled water...thank you.

ReplyDeleteI think you have to continue Narasimha Rasayanam because it is good for hair growth and reduces hair fall.If you have fear of increasing weight reduce its daily dosage to 10 gm at bed time.Don't use use Nilibhringadi tailam everyday without washing because this taila is very cold and it can cause throat infection apply this taila 15 minutes before you take bath on hair and scalp then wash it away use taila only 3 days in a week its enough and don't use soap or shampoo on hair use green gram fine powder for washing hair.....thank you

ReplyDeleteYou can take 2 teaspoon or 10 ml of nilibhringadi tailam and if you have dandruff and itching on scalp you can mix dandrux oil with nilibhringadi tailam and then take 10 ml of taila and apply it on scalp and hair 15 minutes before you bath.But I suggest dhurdhurapatradi velichenna and Nilibhringadi tailam for better result because these two medicines are classical products of Ayurveda....thank you

ReplyDeletePsoriasis is due to vatakapha dosha kopha according to ayurveda.Ayurvedic pachakarma treatment such as thakra dhara,kashaya dhara(aragwadhadi ganam),udwarthanam(nimbadhi churnam,eladhi churnam),kashaya vasthi(panchatikthaka vasthi in yoga vasthi schedule) are the only solution for a permanent cure.Ayurvedic medicines like aragwadhadi kashayam,maha tiktakam kashayam,vajrakam kashayam,maha manjishtadhi kashayam,khadirarishtam,shaddharana curna,aditya paka tailam,dinesaladi tailam,pamantaka taila,vajraka taila,eladi taila etc.. are good for its treatment but don't use it yourself it have to be used according to condition only if it is prescribed by a well experienced doctor ok.The one thing I want to tell is that there is good treatment for psoriasis in Ayurveda.But you have to take a IP treatment in some good hospital and follow the do's and dont's after treatment strictly sucha as avoid eating cold food, Jung food,fried food,curd,meat,fish and took a lot of fresh vegetable food.Then you will surely get a relief from your complaint.There is a ayurvedic concept that psoriasis is due to Dushi-Visha so Vamana chikitsa(vomiting) the patient after snehapana(consuming ghee for 7 days) is done on many hospital and I have observed good result for it in my personal experience,hope this information will help you....thank you

2.Brihatchagaladi Grutham
After havng this for 2 months i gained 5 kgs and my fatigue was reduced.But soon i had a skin problem in inner thighs which developed some boils and rashes with itchy feeling.So doctor prescribed me following medicines
1.Abhayaristam+Puthikaranjasavam+Nimbamritadi pancha tiktakam kashayam+Khadiraristam with (Kaisora guggulu + Kankayana ) gulikas powdered in it.
2.Patolakaturohinyadi kashyam tablet
3.Aragwadi kashayam tablet.
4.Manibadra gulam+vanasuranadi lehyam with kantha sinduram + sankh bhasm in it.
After having this for 1 month my boils and rashes reduced significantly.The problem i am having is i was having medicines for emaciation and i discontinued it because of this prescription. I want to get rid of skin problem and also want to gain healthy weight.

ReplyDeleteBrihatchagaladi gritham is mainly used in loss of strength, emaciation and also good for nerve related disease etc..mainly to regain health.Your case is so complicated because the usage of first medicines for emaciation helps you to gain weight but it results in other skin related complaints.I think you will have to take a combined treatment for this use Eladi tailam for external application if you have itching and continue Brihatchagaladi gritham and Dasamularistam+Draksharishtam+Lohasavam try it wishing you the best ....thank you

ReplyDeleteYes, doctor at kottakkal told me i had high pitta and kapha is also increasing.He advised me to have dinner before 8 pm sleep around 10-11 pm and wake up around 6 am and do some excercise.But in my hostel i can only finish my dinner at 8.30.He also told me to have a gap of 3 hours between dinner and going into bed.So i usually waits till 11.30 pm to go to bed.I am waking up only around 8 am.This makes me feel bad.Doctor , how can i tune my sleep to wake up at 6 am taking dinner time into consideration.Pls reply

I am trying to conceive and have no children yet. My age is 29 and
have a small dermoid cyst measuring to 13 mm on left ovary. My right
ovary has been almost removed after a dermoid cyst removal of 8 cm by
laparoscopy surgery.
My ayurved doctor at Kotakkal Arya Vaidya Shala has prescribed 15 ml
varanadi kashayam twice a day
with 60 ml warm water along with a tablet of sukumaram kwatham. Im
also taking 30 mil ashokarishtam and kaisoraguggulu vatika, 1 tab,
twice a day. Phalasarpis, 1 tsp, at bed time.
My gynaec told me that i have very thin uterine lining on 1st day of
menstrual cycle.
What I need to know is , can varanadi kashayam stop me from getting
pregnant or can it adversely affect my uterus and remaining ovary?
I am also undergoing allopathic treatment of fertility drugs like
clomid, metformin, estrogen and progesterone.

ReplyDeleteI am ram staying in mumbai. I have been suffering from hearing problem in my right ear for last 15 years which, according to ENT specialist, is due to nerve loss. I had prolonged cold/sinus problem. For the last 10 years, i have honey bee humming sound in the right ear. Now for last 5 to 6 years, it is affecting my left ear. This sound comes and gets cured in 3 to 4 months after taking medicines for cold, blood circulation etc., as suggested by several ENT specialists.. I am doing yoga daily. Now last two years, it remains for 8 to 10 months without getting cured. I can hear with my left ear (which according to audiograph 65% hearing is still there) but when this sound comes in the left ear, it affects my hearing. I am using asana villwadi veilichenna for last 5 o 6 years. Please suggest some ayurveda oil for head and medicine if this can be cured. ReplyDeleteThe main indication of kimsuka pathradi kera tailam is kandu(itching),pama(a type of skin diseasae),visarpa(herpis) etc.. mainly pitta kapha disorders.This taila is made with the drugs of kushtaghna gana and a kandughna gana and I think its suitable for your itching.If tamarind leaves are not available buy triphla chorrna...boil 1 teaspoon of triphala choorna in 500 ml water and wash your groin and inner thigh area with it and after drying that area apply taila.thank you

ReplyDeleteThis is with regards to working women and the menopause issues. Currently im in eary 40's and i know im going through the biological change.
1) Dry and brittle hair - lot of hair fall.
2) Try skin with pigmentation.
3) Anger over every thing.
4) No proper sleep, may be alternative day a little bit.
5) Slight muscle pain that is the calf muscle ache if i stand for a long time and bone ache starting now.
6) Digestion problem - can not eat heavy dinner.
7) Feels very tired, always..
8) Checked report says no sugar and BP but has slight cholesterol 146 bad cholesterol. Is this due to hormone problem.
Doctor suggested right now to take Pravalbhasmam (200 mg) this has reduced hair fall.
What other tablets that you would suggest for sound sleep, and pigmentation etc..
Early precaution is better, expecting a good reply from your end would help.

My doctor has prescribed me Nalpamaradi kera thailam to be used (she said apply and keep overnight for better results). My doubt is how long will it take to see some change in my skin complexion? ReplyDeleteFor past few years suffering from Dandruff. Using Dhurthuradi Keram, but no improvement. I have this Dandruff more during winter season or when I am exposed more to air conditioned rooms.
Currently as per my doctor advise I comb my head (scrub out those flakes) and apply the above oil and later have bath using Vaga Podi. But when I do this the oil from my hair hardly goes and this results in sneezing, cold and cough. Also the vaga podi remains in my hair inspite of pouring lot of water as I have a dry and frizzy hair. So now back to using shampoo instead of Vaga podi to remove the oil. And then after my hair get dried I apply a bit of oil just to manage my hair which is otherwise frizzy.
Could you kindly advise me some way to treat this dandruff. I have no itching but when I have lot of flakes I can spot prickly heat type blisters on my forehead. If I comb and bath then the blisters goes of in 2 days.
Also is there any shampoo (in ayurveda or otherwise) which you could recommend?

It started with spots on the left side of the chest. we started with homeopathy treatment but the spots started getting bigger. We stopped the treatment and consulted an allopath and another homeopath. The spots started shrinking and were reduced to half in 9 months. Then recovery stopped and new spots appeared on the feet. Since last 2 months new spots have appeared on face too. Can u pls advise and guide us?
