Uses : External application of the seeds and leaves is done in inflamed wounds, breast abscess, pleuritis and pneumonitis. In inflammation of the throat, decoction of the roots is used for gargling. Indiarrhoea caused by pitta, decoction of the roots is given by rectal administration in the form of a special enema called pichcha basti. Its decoction is also useful in colitis, dysentery, rhinitis and cough
caused by vatapitta.

It reduces polydipsia, vomiting, diarrhoea, weakness of the heart, cough, asthma, hiccups, seminal weakness and dysuria. In fever, its sherbat is given.

Its sherbat is also useful in various debilitating diseases like tuberculosis and fever. Kharjuri is useful in tuberculosis.

Dose: Fruits - 5 to 7; juice - 50 to 100 ml.

External uses:

It is acts as a scraping agent by external application. Its external application is done in kaphaj skin disorders for lekhan. By its tikshna property, it acts as lekhan.

Internal uses:

Since it removes the doshas from the body, it is used in diseases like ascites and oedema which require continuous removal of doshas. For the same reasons it is also used in fever, constipation, headache, flatulence and helminthiasis.

Worms are killed and expelled out by krishnabeeja. It is used in a dose of 1 to 3 gms. in gout, rheumatoid arthritis, oedema, dysuria, amenorrhoea and - dysmenorrhoea.

The seeds are dried, roasted, powdered and then used for medicinal purposes. To avoid abdominal spasm, it is given along with gulkanda, haritaki, fennel etc.

(3) Naktäñdhyatva- Matsyãndas boiled in Bhrñgaraja svarasa when consumed for a period of seven days will cure night blindness (C.D.).

(1) Kustha- Pütika, Devadãru, Mãmsi, Indravãruni, Guduci,Mudgaparni and Kakanäsa are made as paste applied locally (C.S.Ci.7/123).

(2) Kesa Vardhana- Mãmsi, Kustha, Tila, Sãrivã and Niiotpala are made into paste ‘by mixing with milk and honey. It is applied extern’a1131 .A.:H:vt.24).’

(3) Vãtarakta- After siravyadhana, paste of Iviadhuka, Asvatha twak, Mamsi, Virã, Udumbara and DUrvã should be applied (C.S.Ci.29/131).

സംസ്കൃതത്തിൽ മാൻജരി, കൃഷ്ണതുളസി, സുരസാ, ഗ്രാമ്യാ, സുരഭി, ബഹുമഞ്ജരി, ഭൂതഘ്നി എന്നീ പേരുകളിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ഇന്ത്യയിൽ എല്ലായിടങ്ങളിലും കണ്ടുവരുന്ന തുളസി ഔഷധസസ്യമായും പുണ്യസസ്യമായും വീട്ടുമുറ്റത്തും ക്ഷേത്രപരിസരത്തും നട്ടുവളർത്താറുണ്ട്. പരക്കെ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന വാസനയുള്ള സസ്യമാണ് തുളസി. തെക്കേ ഏഷ്യയിൽ ഇതൊരു ഔഷധ സസ്യമായി അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. ചരകസംഹിതയിൽ പരാമർശമുള്ള തുളസി, പിരിമുറുക്കം കുറയ്ക്കാനുള്ള കഴിവുള്ള ഔഷധമാണ്‌ . കറുത്ത തുളസിക്കും വെളുത്ത തുളസിക്കും യഥാക്രമം കൃഷ്ണതുളസിയെന്നും, രാമതുളസിയെന്നും പറയുന്നു. ഇതിൽ കൃഷ്ണതുളസിക്കാണ് ഔഷധഗുണം കൂടുതലുള്ളത്.ഒരു ആയുർവേദ ഔഷധം കൂടിയാണിത്.

ഔഷധഗുണം OF തുളസി ,THE MEDICINAL PROPERTIES OF Ocimum sanctum

1.ചുമ, തൊണ്ടവേദന, ഉദരരോഗങ്ങൾ എന്നിവയെ ശമിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. കൃമിഹരമാണ്. ഇല ഇടിച്ചുപിഴിഞ്ഞ നീർ ചെവി വേദനയെ കുറയ്‌ക്കുന്നു. ത്വക്‌രോഗങ്ങളെ ശമിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. ജ്വരം ശമിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. രുചി വർദ്ധിപ്പിക്കുന്നു.

2.തുളസിയില തണലത്തിട്ടുണക്കി പൊടിച്ച് നാസികാചൂർണമായി ഉപയോഗിച്ചാൽ ജലദോഷം, മൂക്കടപ്പ് എന്നിവയ്ക്ക് ശമനമുണ്ടാകും.

3.തുളസിയില നീര് 10.മി.ലി. അത്രയും തേനും ചേർത്ത് ദിവസവും മൂന്ന് നേരം കുടിച്ചാൽ വസൂരിക്ക് ശമനമുണ്ടാകും.

4.ഇലയും പൂവും ഔഷധയോഗ്യഭാഗങ്ങളാണ്.

5.തുളസിയുടെ ഇല ,പൂവ്, മഞ്ഞൾ, തഴുതാമ എന്നിവ സമമെടുത്ത് അരച്ച് വിഷബാധയേറ്റ ഭാഗത്ത് പുരട്ടുകയും അതോടൊപ്പം 6 ഗ്രാംവീതം ദിവസം മൂന്ന് നേരം എന്നകണക്കിൽ 7 ദിവസം വരെ കഴിക്കുകയും ചെയ്താൽ വിഷം പൂർണമായും നശിക്കും.

.6തുളസിയില കഷായം വെച്ച് പല തവണയായി കവിൾ കൊണ്ടാൽ വയ്നാറ്റം മാറും. തുളസിയില ഇടിച്ചു പിഴിഞ്ഞ് നീരിൽ കുരുമുളക് പൊടി ചേർത്ത് കഴിച്ചാൽ ജ്വരം ശമിക്കും.

7.തുളസിയില തിരുമ്മി മണക്കുന്നതും തുളസിയിലയിട്ട് പുകയേല്ക്കുന്നതും പനി മറ്റുള്ളവരിലേക്ക് വരുന്നത് തടയാൻ സഹായിക്കും.

8.തുളസിയില ഇട്ട് തിളപ്പിച്ചാറിയ വെള്ളം രണ്ട് തുള്ളി വീതം കണ്ണിലൊഴിച്ചാൽ ചെങ്കണ്ണ് മാറും.

9.തുളസിയിലയും പാടക്കിഴങ്ങും ചേർത്തരച്ച് പുരട്ടിയാൽ മുഖക്കുരു മാറും.

10.ചിലന്തിവിഷത്തിന് ഒരു സ്പൂൺ തുളസിനീരും ഒരു കഷ്ണം പച്ചമഞ്ഞളും കൂടി അരച്ചു പുരട്ടിയാൽ മതി.

11.ചുമശമന ഔഷധങ്ങൾ‍, സോപ്പ്, ഷാംപൂ, സുഗന്ധദ്രവ്യങ്ങൾ എന്നിവയിൽ‍ തുളസി ഒരു ചേരുവയായും ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു.

12.തുളസിച്ചെടിയിൽ കർപ്പൂര സദൃശമായ ഒരിനം തൈലം അടങ്ങിയിരിക്കുന്നു. ഇത് 'ബാസിൽ കാംഫർ' എന്നറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. തുളസിച്ചെടി വളരെ ഔഷധഗുണമുള്ള സസ്യമാണ്.

13.ഇത് ജ്വരത്തെ ശമിപ്പിക്കുകയും ഉദരകൃമികളെ നശിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു. തേൾവിഷം, ചിലന്തിവിഷം, പാമ്പുവിഷം തുടങ്ങിയവയ്ക്കെതിരെയുള്ള പ്രതിവിഷമായും ഇത് ഉപയോഗിക്കാറുണ്ട്.

കേരളത്തിൽ പരക്കെ കാണപ്പെടുന്ന ഒരു ഔഷധസസ്യം ആണ്‌ കല്ലുരുക്കി. ഇതിന്റെ ശാസ്ത്രീയനാമം Scoparia dulcis എന്നാണ്‌. ഈ സസ്യം Scrophulariaceae സസ്യകുടുംബത്തിൽ പെടുന്നു. മലയാളത്തിൽ മീനാംഗണി, സന്യാസിപ്പച്ച, ഋഷിഭക്ഷ എന്നീ പേരുകളിൽ അറിയപ്പെടുന്ന ഈ സസ്യത്തിന്റെ സംസ്കൃതനാമം ആസ്മാഗ്നി എന്നാണ്‌ഏകദേശം 30 സെന്റീമീറ്റർ പൊക്കത്തിൽ വളരുന്ന ഒരു വാർഷിക സസ്യമാണ്‌ കല്ലുരുക്കി. ചെറിയ ഇലകൾ പച്ചനിറമുള്ള തണ്ടിന്റെ ചുറ്റുപാടും കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. തണ്ടുകൾ പച്ചനിറത്തിൽ ശാഖകളായി വളരുന്നു. ചെറിയ വെളുത്ത പൂക്കളാണ്‌ ഇതിനുള്ളത്. വിത്തുകൾ തൊങ്ങലുകൾ പോലെ പച്ചനിറത്തിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു.
