Anal Cancer Management in Ayurveda: Panchakarma, Herbs, and Rasayana Support

Anal Cancer – Ayurvedic Management & Treatment Protocol

1. Modern Overview

Anal cancer is a malignant growth arising from the anus, often linked with chronic irritation, HPV infection, or uncontrolled cell division.

  • Symptoms: Bleeding per rectum, pain, itching, mass near anus, altered bowel habits, weight loss.

  • Management (Modern): Surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy depending on staging.

2. Ayurvedic Understanding

In Ayurveda, anal cancer can be correlated with Guda Arbuda (malignant growth in anus) or Dushta Arsha (malignant hemorrhoids-like condition).

🔹 Doṣa Involvement

  • Vāta-Kapha: primary in Arbuda (tumor growth, obstruction).

  • Pitta: secondary in ulceration, burning, bleeding.

🔹 Dūṣyas: Rasa, Rakta, Māmsa, Meda Dhātus.

🔹 Srotas: Annavaha, Purīṣavaha, Raktavaha.

🔹 Samprapti: Vāta-Kapha prakopa → Sthānavaigunya in guda pradeśa → Arbuda formation with Rakta dushti & Pitta involvement.

3. Chikitsā Sūtra (Principles of Treatment)

  • Kapha-Vāta Shamana – to reduce growth & obstruction.

  • Lekhana & Bhedana – scraping and reducing abnormal tissue.

  • Raktaprasādana – purification of blood.

  • Rasāyana – rejuvenation, immunity enhancement.

  • Śamana & Śodhana – palliative and cleansing therapies.

4. Panchakarma Protocol

  • Snehapāna: Tiktaka Ghṛta, Mahātiktaka Ghṛta (Kapha-Pitta shamaka).

  • Virechana: Trivṛt Lehya, Avipattikara Chūrṇa (purgation for Pitta-Kapha).

  • Yogic Taila Basti / Picchu: Application of medicated oils like Jatyādi Taila, Nimbādi Taila locally for wound healing.

  • Kṣāra Karma: In selected non-bleeding localized growths (caustic cauterization).
