KANCHANAR GUGGULU AND ITS GLANDULAR ACTION



Properties & uses:

Kanchanar is the herb of choice in all-glandular diseases. Traditionally used in India to treat thyroid diseases and glandular enlargements.

THYROID:

It is also a specific herb for hypo/hyper thyroid. It has a balancing activity on the thyroxine production; increasing any deficient production and decreasing any excess. It also clears swellings in the neck and goitre.

LYMPH:

It is a specific herb for swollen lymph nodes, cervical adenitis, scrophularia or swollen glands in general. It effectively flushes the lymphatic system of toxins, sluggishness and accumulated wastes. Also may be beneficial where the sinuses are congested because of the sluggish lymphatic system. It is a powerful decongestant.

Dosage:

2 tablets thrice daily with a spoon of honey

Contraindications:

Pregnancy or any dryness in the body

Description of individual ingredients: -

Pippali (Piper longum) Fruit

It is an alterative tonic, appetizer & carminative agent. It is known to help in general debility, dyspepsia, flatulence & respiratory tract infection.

Elaichi ( Elettaria cardamomum)Seeds

It is cardiac & general tonic, carminative & appetizer agent. It is known to help in general debility, cardiac disorders, anorexia & flatulence.

Tejpatra (Cinnamomum tamala)Leaves

It is nervine tonic, digestive, carminative, uterine stimulant & appetizer agent. It is known to help in general debility, uterine disorders, anorexia & indigestion

Dalchini Cinnamomum zeylanicum (Dalchini)

It has haemostatic properties. It is especially effective in uterine bleeding.

Pippali (Piper longum)Fruit

It is an alterative tonic, appetizer & carminative agent. It is known to help in general debility, dyspepsia, flatulence & respiratory tract infection.

Vayuvidanga (Embelia ribes)

Fruits or dried berries are carminative, anthelmintics stimulant and alterative. Pulp is purgative. Fresh juice is cooling, diuretic and laxative. Dried berries are useful to expel intestinal worms especially tape worm. It is given internally for piles. Recent clinical studies on extracts of berries of E. ribes showed that the drug was effective as an ascaride, no purging was required and no evidence of toxicity was observed during and after treatment.

Amalki (Emblica)

Fresh fruit is refrigerant, diuretic and laxative. Green fruit is exceedingly acidic. Dried fruit is sour and astringent. Flowers are cooling and aperient.
Bark is astringent. The green fruits stimulate appetite. Dried fruit is useful in hemorrhage, diarrhea and dysentery; with iron it is a valuable remedy in anemia, jaundice and dyspepsia. The fresh fruit contains very high percentage of vitamin 'G' and is effective in infection of the lungs and throat, chronic bronchitis, whoopin cough and asthma, and of special value in vitamin SG5 deficiency diseases. Recent clinical studies have shown that Amalaki churna is effective in gastritis syndrome.
By means of paper chromatographic study, the air-dried fruits (Amla) have been found to contain some 13 separable tannins in addition to 3 or 4 colloidal complexes.

Haritaki (Terminalia chebula)Fruits

It is an alterative, general & nervine tonic as well as carminative & liver stimulant agent. It is known to help in nervine debility, hepatic disorders & constipation.

Vibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica)

Asbringent, tonic, expectorant and laxative. Fruits are useful in cough, hoarsce-ness, eye disease and scorption sting. Beleric myrobalan consists of gallow tannic acid, colouring matter, resins and greenish yellow oil 25%.

Varuna Bark(Crataeva nurvala, C. magna)

It has anti-inflammatory, diuretic, lithontriptic, demulcent and tonic properties. Bark yields ceryl alcohol, friedelin, lupeol, betulinic acid and diosgenin.

It is useful in disorders of urinary organs, urinary tract infections, pain and burning micturition, renal and vesical calculi.

Guggulu(Commiphora mukul)

It is astringent, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic. When taken internally it acts as a bitter, stomachic and carminative, stimulating the appetite and improving digestion. It causes an increase in leucocytes in the blood and stimulates phagocytosis. It acts as a diaphoretic, expectorant and diuretic, and is said to be a uterine stimulant and emmenagogue. The resin is used in the form of a lotion for indolent ulcers and as a gargle in chronic tonsilitis, pharyngitis and ulcerated throat.

Sunthi (Zingiber officinale)

Ginger is aromatic, carminative, and stimulant to the gastro-instestional and stomachic, also sialagogue and digestive. Externally, a local stimulant rubefacient.
Indian ginger contains an aromatic volatile oil 1 to 5%, of light yellow colour having a characteristic odour and containing camphene, phellandrene, zingiberine cineol and borneol; gingerol a yellow pungent body, an oleo-resin "gingerin" the active principle, other resins and starch; potassium-oxalate.
The essential and resin, to which ginger owes its pungent flavour, occur just beneath the skin or epidermis.
Ginger is extremely valuable in dyspepsia, flatulence, colic, vomiting, spasms and other painful affection of the stomach and the bowels.

Marich(Piper nigrum)

It is much employed as an aromatic stimulant in weakness following fevers, coma, etc., as a stomachic in dyspepsia and flatulence. It has bacteriostatic and fungistatic properties.

Kachanara Bark (Bauhinia variegata)

The bark is astringent, tonic and anathematic. It is useful in scrofula and skin diseases. It is also used for ulcers and leprosy. A decoction of the bark is taken for dysentery. The dried buds are used for diarrhea, dysentery and hemorrhoids.

    Thanks for maintaining this blog. Quite informative.Please do an article on ayurvedic remedies for benign prostatic hyperplasia. I read articles that saw palmetto, pumpkin seed oil are some of the suggested remedies. Want to hear your take on ayurvedic remedies.
