Harītakī, golden-yellow in color, is both bitter and pungent in taste and enhances appetite. She is a heart tonic, light to digest, and effectively balances all three doṣas. She promotes fertility, increases intelligence, and strengthens the flow of prāṇa vāyu. She reduces obesity, calms the mind, and improves memory. Known for cleansing the bowels, she pacifies vāta and kapha always. She gives bodily strength, rejuvenates the system, and brightens the skin. Among her seven varieties, she glows like gold. In all Ayurvedic formulations, Harītakī is the supreme, with her prominent bitter taste.
