Uses 
Folklore, traditional, tribal

Dried plant decoction is used for dysentery, gastroenteritis, bloody stool, indigestion, hepatitis, tonsillitis, laryngopharyngitis.
· Poultice of dried material for furuncle and abscesses.
· Decoction as external wash for dermatitis, eczema, pruritus.
· Poultice or decoction as external wash used for sprains, bruises, poisonous snake bites.
· In traditional Chinese medicine, used to treat ulcers, eczema, stomach aches and various inflammatory diseases. Also used to treat worms and scorpion bites.

As veterinary diureticuse in Nepal. 

In Malaysia and Vietnam, where it is used in dysentery, enteritis, and sore throat.

Persicaria multiflorum( Chinese knot weed, fo-ti) 
In China another species of this P.multiflorum is used as a rejuvenar, to relieve symptoms of Alzheimer’s.
Alkaloid present in the root tuber is responsible for the rejuvenating effect on the brain cells, the endocrine glands, and the nerves.

Studies
Antibacterial / Antifungal leaf extracts showed antibacterial and antifungal activity against the selected pathogenic bacteria and fungi.
